A wide range of business activities are subject to statutory licensing requirements and/or oversight by a regulatory body for the purpose of the protection of consumers, workers or other purposes (e.g. the environment).

Practice area overview

Any business that must hold a licence to carry on its business should be aware that the regulatory authority is often able to either suspend or cancel the licence if the business is not carried on in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and/or the licence holder is determined not to be a ‘fit and proper person’ to hold a licence. Compliance requirements for business continue to increase in their scope and complexity.

What we do

We provide advice to industry participants who encounter business licensing issues and also in relation to disputes with regulatory authorities concerning licenses (including ’show cause’ actions by regulatory authorities) which can present a real threat to the viability of a business and should be given proper attention as early as possible to reduce the risk of the regulatory authority taking active steps to cancel the licence required for the conduct of your business.
